Never feed your dog grapes or raisins

People know never feed your dog grapes or raisins. So then what should you do if your dog consumes a grape or raisins?

I’m like should you Rover out you just wait and don’t do anything about it see if they’ve gone that see if they have some of those other clinical signs. If it was my own dog Lewis I would get him to vomit mean that’s the single biggest thing is they ingest it get rid of that potential toxin.

So, in terms of inducing vomiting if you’re going to be able to if you’re doing it at home we want to use as have 3% hydrogen peroxide on hand. I’m just going to pour some of it into cup then I have just a bit of tap water in this other cup here when I’m looking at a ghost we’re looking at five miles of peroxide. Which is a teaspoon of peroxide for pounds of body weight daily?

I’m calling Louis about pounds so that’d be about miles this is a ml syringe so a little bit more than what’s in this syringe. So I drop in it and that’s just what about three tablespoons. It’s not a lot of peroxide so I’m going to draw that up into the syringe, just going to go past the end you guys can see it there squirt that into this bowl.

Drop the equivalent amount of water I generally suggest looking at one-to-one with water and peroxide 3% peroxide. Teaspoon or miles per pounds of body weight and then I would just give that in two doses. Not going to do it to Louis, now I don’t want him to vomit but if you were to consumer grape arrays.

That’s what I would do at home, Jenny when I’m inducing vomiting at home with peroxide I’d lift his head up. Make sure I get it to the back but I put the syringe right to the back of his mouth right to bury the back of his tongue. Then you know slowly squirt that in ensuring that he’s swallowing each amount of it in generally. If your dog doesn’t vomit within ten minutes then I would repeat it again.

Obviously, the other big thing and if you’re at all injure you can immediately go to your veterinarian. They have additional things they can do to induce vomiting; they have a special injection in practice I used to use a little tablet that we just go under the dogs. I call April morphine pretty quickly that would induce vomiting the other thing that you could consider in terms of a grape or raisin toxicity as having activated charcoal on hand and here it is here and what it does it will bind to any of the toxins that your dog or cat is consumed bind to those in the stomach and helpfully prevent those from being absorbed and helping those move out unabsorbed.

There’s different doses for this one we’re already in a liquid form which is easiest I just suggest you shake it well first you can get it from your veterinarian get it from a whole variety of pharmacies now and it’s sort of a pretty standard dose is about mil so that’s about two of these teaspoons if you’re looking at the syringe here.

You can see the there’s the ml mark there so that’s two teaspoons for about pounds of body weight for activated charcoal not so we you would get after you induced your pet to vomit or whatever tox and they’ve consumed I mean in some cases when it’s been more than a few hours and likely that food or whatever their dog your dog has ingested has moved its weight out of the stomach.

If you’re not going to be able to induce vomiting and then the only real treatment is the activated charcoal the other big point I want to make is one yes it is serious chances are if your dog consumes raisins or grapes that are not going to get clinical signs but you never know in a small percent do so I would encourage you to take it seriously.

I’m just in really trying to avoid them so they’re not made available to your dog – and if they do consume raises are great ensure that they vomit or you get them to a veterinarian if they vomit and especially if they’ve consumed them they vomit within a few hours after that they’re showing clinical sign where they’re reacting to those grapes or those raisins get your dog to the veteran as soon as possible. Then they can also induce vomiting get your dog on IV fluids so aggressively decontaminate eliminate what ever’s in their stomach and get them on IV fluids and hopefully prevent your dog from going into end-stage kidney failure treating the damage to their kidneys so they can then recover.
